QA Partner:Distributed Allows Concurrent, Multiplatform Client/Server Testing Across the Network; QA DBTester Allows Direct Access and Extends Automated Testing to the Database
NEWTON CENTRE, MA, February 13, 1996-Segue Software, Inc. today announced two new members of Segue's QualityWorks family of software testing products. Both new products support distributed testing across hardware platforms, networks, and operating systems.
"QA Partner:Distributed and QA DBTester leverage QualityWork's open architecture and agent technology to support the testing of heterogeneous client/server systems," said Tim Perkins, vice president of marketing for Segue. "QA Partner:Distributed is the only product that allows customers to conduct concurrent, multiplatform tests across the network, and QA DBTester is the only product that allows customers to directly validate information in the database that is used by the application." Both QA Partner:Distributed and QA DBTester are fully integrated with QA Partner and QA Planner, as well as the other members of the QualityWorks family.
QA Partner:Distributed
QA Partner:Distributed supports distributed client/server testing,
and provides functional, configuration, server, stress, and middleware
testing. It provides native support of TCP/IP, IPX/SPX, and NetBIOS,
so that tests from one computing environment can drive tests that
run on one or more target environments. Segue's real-time agent
technology makes it possible for one central point to drive and
coordinate concurrent testing and data collection across the network
and multiple platforms. For example, a client running Windows
95, Windows NT, or Windows 3.1 can drive tests on a UNIX server.
QA Partner:Distributed automates complex system tests that today
require intensive manual effort. It can coordinate the exact order
of test statements and execute the same test concurrently across
many application components, creating actual multi-user stress
and load activity. This capability enables the orchestration of
multi-user functional tests for systems which contain interdependent
workflows. QA Partner:Distributed also allows and integrates the
testing of application components beyond the graphical interface,
such as Remote Procedure Calls (RPCs) and Application Program
Interfaces (APIs), permitting the direct testing of these application
components, regardless of the presence of a Graphical User Interface.
"QA Partner:Distributed is an important advance to those customers who are deploying Client/Server applications more sophisticated than one client talking to a central data source via a LAN," said Perkins. "Today you have to deal with the interaction of many different components. One change in any of the components can impact the application. QA Partner:Distributed allows you to test all the components of the application, regardless of platform or whether they have a direct GUI interface."
QA DBTester
QA DBTester allows direct access to the database, permitting test scripts to independently access and verify database activities related to the application under test. It enables direct SQL access to over 35 leading database environments from within Segue's Visual 4Test language. For example, tests can be developed to verify that the database is updated properly or that stored triggers and procedures are executing as required. QA DBTester also extends Segue's Recovery System, enabling the recovery and resetting of application data within the database to ensure accurate unattended testing.
Pricing and Availability
QA DBTester costs $1,495 for all Windows platforms, and $3,495 for UNIX platforms. Users would run QA DBTester with QA Partner for local database testing, or with QA Partner:Distributed for database testing across the network. QA DBTester is available immediately. QA Partner:Distributed is priced at $4,995 for all Windows platforms, and $10,495 for UNIX.
